Grand Rapids Michigan Hyatt Hotel

As John Wheeler passed the corner of Grand Rapids Avenue and Michigan Avenue on his way to a 125-car parking lot, he dreamed of creating a development that would add to the vibrancy of downtown Grand Rapids. That dream came true last week when he signed a contract to develop the property with Grand Falls, Michigan-based Ellis Parking Co. in Ellis, Michigan.

The building, known as the Warner Building, will include a 432-car garage on floors 2-8, while the remaining floors will be occupied by a 1,000-square-foot office building with retail and office space. Van Wyk Risk Solutions will move into the building, Chemical Bank of Warner Norcross will lease the interiors and negotiations are ongoing to lease the interiors, Orion spokesman Jason Wheeler said. Orion, which is also building a 2,500-seat hotel, office and retail space on the site of the former parking lot, will also be located at the corner of Grand Rapids Avenue and Michigan Avenue, east of Michigan Street. The groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark Orion's decision to build the 125 parking spaces.
